What
is hypnosis?
A
good definition of Hypnosis is:
A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a heightened
awareness induced by suggestion.
Most of you will be familiar with some of the Hypnotists on TV and,
although they are very entertaining, they are only interested in
how amusing they can make you look for the audience. Hypno therapy
is very different. We are more interested in using that state
of total relaxation to help you deal with whatever is holding you
back.
There
are so many myths and fears surrounding the use of Hypnosis and
this reputation for mystery is totally undeserved.
Hypnosis
is simply a focusing of the attention. It is impossible to focus
on any one thing for any length of time without going into a 'trance'
or a level of Hypnosis. You actually 'enter' this state many times
in your normal day - when you first wake up from a good night's
sleep or watching a television program for example.
By listening to the therapist's voice you will be induced into a
state of Hypnosis. You are unlikely to feel 'hypnotised' as such
- you will just experience a feeling of mental and physical relaxation
and your memory may well be enhanced.
You
will find your Therapist to be a caring professional, totally devoid
of any mystical or magical powers! No flowing robes or swinging
watches - just a reassuring manner to put you at your ease and the
expertise to help you with your problem. For a more in-depth explanation
of Hypnoanalysis see the link to a lecture
given by Rob Kelly FIAPH in 2004, on how/why Pure Hypnoanalysis
works
